Darfur: portrait of a crisis
A deserted village, a makeshift camp for people who have fled their homes, a member of an armed militia watering his horse at a well.... In 2006, Oxfam's Coco McCabe traveled to Darfur with photographer Eva-Lotta Jansson to document the work of Oxfam in the camps for displaced people. In this video slide show, they offer a glimpse into the lives of people caught in an armed conflict. The Darfur emergency isn't over. Most of those who abandoned their villages ten years ago have been unable to return home, and in 2013, new violence is causing massive new displacement. Oxfam and our partners are working to protect public health in the crowded camps, while helping many of the most vulnerable residents earn a decent living.
