Props and/or state are used by a React component to generate the output. If the component makes calculations that don't target the output value, then these calculations are named SIDE-EFFECTS Fetch requests, direct DOM manipulation, the use of timer functions like setTimeout(), and other actions are examples of side effects. The side-effect logic is independent of component rendering.
