Tasmania Gave Us One Last Surprise Before Mainland Australia

Spirit of Tasmania Ferry, BMW R1300 GSA Touring & Wild Platypus | S7 EP16 In this episode of our around the world motorcycle tour, we leave our off-grid nature cabin in Tasmania and ride towards Devonport to catch the Spirit of Tasmania ferry back to mainland Australia. After weeks of motorcycle touring around Tasmania on our BMW R1300 GS Adventure, this is our final day on the island before the next huge chapter begins: our big mainland Australia motorcycle road trip. We have ridden Tasmania’s wild west coast, mountain roads, forests, national parks, remote tracks, Cradle Mountain, wombat country and some of the best riding roads in Australia — but Tasmania had one last surprise for us before we left. On the way to the ferry, we stop by a quiet lake and find something we had been hoping to see properly in the wild: a platypus. It felt like the perfect final Tasmanian moment before boarding the Spirit of Tasmania and heading back across Bass Strait. This episode follows our ride to the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal, the ferry crossing from Tasmania to mainland Australia, and the beginning of our next stage: touring mainland Australia by motorcycle. From here, our Australia road trip gets much bigger as we begin the long ride around the mainland, taking on huge distances, remote places, iconic Australian roads, wildlife, weather, outback riding and everything that comes with travelling Australia two-up by motorcycle.
