أهم التعليمات بعد عملية تثبيت الفقرات القطنية لضمان التعافي السريع | د. علي يسري القاضي

If you're watching this video, then you've had lumbar spinal fusion surgery. Thank God for your recovery! Let me explain some instructions for the initial recovery period. First point immediately after the surgery: ♦️You can drink after 4 hours, you can eat after 6 hours, and you can walk around freely because, most likely, I didn't insert a catheter. ♦️You can sleep on your side, stomach, or back; there are no problems. ♦️You can sit for extended periods, but it might strain your back a little. ♦️We keep you in the hospital for 48 hours because the drain we inserted needs to be drained of some of the blood after the surgery. We remove it after 48 hours, and then you can go home, God willing. Okay, after the operation, you'll likely experience some mild, expected pain. 👈 Chest pain and pain in the front of your thigh, because you were lying on your stomach on a support beam during the operation. This beam is semi-circular, and you're lying face down, so this pain is expected. 👈 You might experience some tingling in one or both legs. This is due to the release of the nerve, or the unwinding of a nerve that was compressed for a very long time. However, the tingling will be completely different from what you felt before the operation. 👈 You might have some back pain, but the pain in your back, in particular, will be different from what you felt before the operation. Before the operation, you felt like your back was being cut, but now you feel something hurting near the incision, close to the skin. This means the skin itself hurts, which is normal for the incision site. This will improve, God willing, with painkillers; there's absolutely no problem with that. 👈 You might feel some pain near the sacroiliac joint after the surgery, and this is perfectly normal, especially since, after fixation of the fifth and first sacral vertebrae, there's about 20% of people who experience some pain in the hip joint. We treat this and prescribe medication for it after the surgery. This is the first phase, which is the first 48 hours after the operation. Okay, from the time you leave the hospital until you come back to see me after 14 days, you can walk, you can sleep, you can sit—there shouldn't be any problems with anything. The most important thing is not to lift heavy things. At first, I told people not to sit for long periods, but now you can sit, but don't sit until your back hurts too much. Sit for a while, and when your back starts to hurt, start resting. There are no restrictions on anything except strenuous activity. I'm not saying you can't cook, for example, but you shouldn't exert yourself too much, especially in the initial period, because these things can severely affect the muscles and the vertebrae above the stabilization, and they can also affect the hip joint. Let's talk about the second phase, from the moment you leave the hospital until you come to my clinic. First, we'll give you some medications: ♦️A muscle relaxant for back pain. ♦️Something for the hip joint. ♦️Anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling medication, something to improve blood circulation to the nerves. ♦️Vitamins and an antibiotic. ♦️The dressing should be changed every other day, just like the assistant doctor came and changed the dressing and showed you how. You must send a picture of the wound to the doctor, even if it looks fine. We need to be sure because this is something we like to monitor. So that, God forbid, any infections from the wound can be detected early and treated correctly. The second point is that if there is any pain after the operation in the initial period, we monitor it with the assistants and myself personally. Some pain, like backache and slight tingling, is something we can manage, and we like to monitor it in the initial period. There are no restrictions, except for: ♦️Excessive physical exertion or strain. ♦️Walking is fine. ♦️Sitting is fine. ♦️Climbing and descending stairs, and even going out itself, are fine, but without putting excessive strain on the muscles. You can tell if the pain becomes excessive; if so, avoid that exertion. The third stage involves you coming to the clinic for a check-up on the wound. I tell you: ♦️You can shower and run water over the wound. ♦️We reduce the medications you were taking after the surgery based on any remaining pain, and hopefully, you won't experience any pain at all. ♦️We start taking some vitamins. ♦️We begin physical therapy one month after the surgery. This physical therapy focuses on the lumbar vertebrae to strengthen the abdominal and back muscles, preventing any complications later on. ♦️Of course, if you were overweight before the surgery, this is the stage where you must lose weight. If you don't lose weight—and this is something I emphasize in the clinic—especially in the first six months, don't even think about the possibility of developing a slipped disc, persistent pain, or increased stiffness in the hip joint. Why? Because the ...
