V12 simple coolant leak fix...nope! Blame Jaguar Engineering

This should have been a nice simple and short fix of a coolant leak on my Jaguar XJS V12.... it turned into something much more involved than I expected. The job quickly revealed some questionable design, build & part choices, awkward fasteners, and sealing issues that needed a bit of problem solving to work around. In this video I go through the full process — from diagnosing the leak, to stripping things down, dealing with aluminium corrosion, poor sealing surfaces & poor quality parts, ultimately getting everything back together & leak free. Along the way I also demonstrate a cleaner way to drain coolant using a cheap oil extraction vacuum pump, plus a few practical tips that apply to most older engines. If you’ve ever worked on an older car and found what should be a simple and quick job spiralling, this will probably feel familiar. What’s covered: Finding the source of the coolant leak A cleaner way to drain coolant Dealing with awkward/odd-sized fasteners Traditional coolant drain methods Cleaning and restoring sealing surfaces Thermostat sizing issues Choosing gaskets and sealant strategy Reassembly and final fix Previous video on XJS coolant change:    • Jaguar XJS V12 coolant change — why I hate...   XJS V12 coolant playlist:    • One Overheat Can End a Jaguar V12 — Here’s...   #jaguar #XJS #JaguarV12 #ClassicJaguar #Marelli #ClassicCarOwnership #modernclassic
