The Indonesian Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono, announced the development progress of the Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperative (KDMP). Involving 18 ministries/institutions, chaired by Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan, the formation of 83,000 KDMP business entities has been completed. The next phase is the physical construction of KDMPs, including warehouses and outlets, carried out by Agrinas and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Despite challenges related to location and land, the process faces challenges. 12,700 units have been completed, with a target of 30,000 units by August 2023 and 40,000 units by the end of the year. The KDMP operation is being carried out in stages to maximize its business model as a distributor/seller of subsidized goods and staple foods. KDMPs also act as off-takers, absorbing village products from agriculture/plantations, crafts, and fisheries, and as an instrument for distributing government social assistance programs to ensure they reach their intended audiences. All activities within the KDMP will encompass all community economic activities, including managing issues related to middlemen and loan sharks. Furthermore, village residents will become KDMP administrators, although the Managership will be conducted through general recruitment. The Cooperatives Minister also ensured that the government welcomes public input on KDMP development efforts, including issues related to land and the location of Kopdes, which have gone viral.
