SECOND OPINION: The film "Fjord" — when tolerance becomes selective How tolerant is modern society and where is the line between protecting rights and imposing a single worldview? These questions are back in the public's attention with the international success of the film "Fjord" — directed by Cristian Mungiu and awarded the Palme d'Or at Cannes 2026. The film presents the drama of a Christian family that comes into conflict with the Norwegian social welfare system and raises uncomfortable themes about freedom, authority, child education and the limits of state intervention. But the case in the film is not unique. Baker Jack Phillips vs. Colorado, Catholic Social Services vs. Philadelphia, the conviction of Minos Kokinakis in Greece, the religious dismissals of Sabbath keepers — all show a global trend documented by Pew Research, Freedom House and USC IRF: religious intolerance is increasing year after year, and global freedom has declined for the 20th consecutive year.
