LECTURA DE LA APOLOGÍA (III) LA DIGNIDAD | cap 13 (Sócrates y Platón)

What is this thing we call dignity? It's not so easy to know. It is, in fact, one of the common threads that runs through the entire History of Philosophy: "for some reason," the phrase is Kant's, "people refuse to lose, for the love of life, that which makes life worth living." Well, this is the theme Socrates introduces at the end of his speech before the assembly of Athenians. In this chapter, we will finish our reading of the Apology, taking the opportunity to relate what Socrates says (in this dialogue by Plato) with the common thread of Kant's Critique of Practical Reason, and, incidentally, with what was the most basic outline of the Western films that were so widely produced in Hollywood, with screenwriters and directors who were, some of them, impressive (such as John Ford, about whom we have included a magnificent article by Santiago Alba Rico in this same description). ❗📺 Salvador Allende's Last Stand: 👉    • La última decisión de Salvador Allende.   ❗📰 Magnificent article by Santiago Alba Rico on John Ford's films: 👉 https://ctxt.es/es/20210301/Firmas/35... --- 0:00 Presentation 0:36 What is this thing we call dignity? 0:40 Recapitulation of our reading of the Apology 2:09 Reading of Socrates' Farewell 5:47 Death should not be avoided at the cost of losing dignity 6:17 Kant and Practical Reason: Life and Dignity 7:20 "That for which it is worth living" 9:27 Reflection on Death 13:39 Kant: An Irresistible Argument for Human Attention 15:17 Hollywood Movies 16:00 The Lone Ranger Jesus, Socrates, Spartacus… 4:28 PM The example of Salvador Allende 6:08 PM A text by Kant 9:04 PM Law and Liberty 9:46 PM The categorical imperative 11:24 PM The practical use of reason 11:52 PM Farewell --- Paintings and Illustrations (in order of appearance):- The School of Athens (1512) (animation) by Raphael Sanzio "Socrates Speaking" (1867) by Louis J.
