SENJA: Roadtrip on the SCENIC ROUTE and a hike to HESTEN and SEGLA mountain //EPS.9 EXPEDITION NORTH

The fairytale island Senja is as well called Norway in miniature because so many of the nation´s highlights can be seen in this single unique area: High mountains, fjords, valleys, colourful villages and bays. Join our ride over Senja's senic route - and a hike to the peak of Hesten mountain from where you have an amazing view on Segla mountain, that is as well known as the "sail of Senja". They call Senja two faced: gentle, green and welcoming on the landward side, and raw, brutal and furiously stormy on the oceanside. We arrived in Gryllefjord with the ferry and stayed close to Hamn I Senja. From there we were able to explore the island Senja on the scenic route: along rough mountains, through dark tunnels and across beautiful birch woodlands. But our highlight was a hike to the top of Hesten mountain from the trailhead in the village Fjordgard, to enjoy the view on the iconic Segla "sail of Senja". And finally I was able to stay up long enough at night (due to the bites of flies that attacked my ankle on the hike on Hesten and made my foot swell terribly) to experience the famous midnight sun!
