Intense Frontal Squall Line, Dutchess County NY, Nov 15, 2020

No this is not an ad for McDonald's, it just happened to be the most well lit location to film in. Lol. Anyway, on November 15th, 2020, a large extratropical low passed to the northwest through the eastern Great Lakes. Southern NY state was briefly in the warm sector of this system. This allowed for a mild, moisture laden airmass to be advected over the region. Despite the lack of surface heating and instability, the system's potent cold front produced enough forcing for the development of a defined squall line as it pushed forward through the warm sector. The storms didn't produce much lightning, but very strong low and mid level wind fields allowed for this squall to produce wind damage through a large swath of the area. 10s of thousands of customers in the area lost power. Toward the end of the video, you can actually see a power flash light up the sky to the north. Temps behind the front dropped rapidly from the mid 50s to the mid 30s.
