Hamamönü is a historic district located in the Altındağ district of Ankara province. The historic buildings, examples of 19th-century civil architecture, have been restored and the area has been revitalized. Hamamönü takes its name from the double bathhouse built by Karacabey, a chieftain of the Bayındır tribe of the Oghuz Turkic tribe. The historic Karacabey Bathhouse is located here. The building where the Turkish National Anthem was written, now used as the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Museum House, and the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Park, which houses it, are also important stops in Hamamönü. Hamamönü is a vibrant area of ​​Ankara where cultural and artistic activities take place. Host to events such as live music concerts and film screenings, Hamamönü is a place you can visit and explore year-round. You can see the works of traditional handicrafts artists in the historic houses on Sanat Street, and you can purchase local handicrafts at the handicrafts market. Hamamönü also hosts traditional events, especially during Ramadan, and is a popular destination for visitors to enjoy. Hacettepe University (HU) is a state university established in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, on July 8, 1967, by Law No. 892. The university has five campuses, with its main campus in Sıhhiye and its largest campus in Beytepe. Various vocational schools and research centers are located on the campuses outside Sıhhiye and Beytepe. With the relocation of the Ankara State Conservatory to the Beytepe Campus in 2019, the Beşevler campus was left completely vacant. Hacettepe University's foundations lie with the Department of Child Health, established in the Hacettepe neighborhood of Altındağ on February 2, 1954, under the auspices of Ankara University's Faculty of Medicine. This department, chaired by Professor Dr. İhsan Doğramacı, was transformed into a health institution in 1957, taking the name Child Health Institute and Hospital. By 1958, in addition to the research and treatment activities carried out within the institute, educational activities began. The Institute of Social Services was established in 1961, marking the first time social work education began in Turkey. The same year, departments of Nursing, Medical Technology, and Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation were established, and in 1962, the School of Health Sciences, focusing on nutrition and dietetics, was established. The name of the school was changed to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1963. The School of Dentistry also began its education that same year. As it became difficult to conduct education, research, and treatment activities simultaneously under a single roof, the Hacettepe Science Center was established in 1965, and all educational activities were affiliated with this unit. All other health activities were continued within the Hacettepe Medical Center and Hospital, which became operational the following year. Hacettepe University was officially established by Law No. 892, published in the Official Gazette on July 8, 1967, and enacted. The university began with faculties of Medicine, Health, Science, and Social Sciences, and in 1968, the School of Home Economics was added. The Pharmacy and Dentistry departments, established as colleges in previous years, became faculties in 1971. Over time, as new departments, faculties, research centers, and colleges were opened, the university grew steadily and faced a building shortage. Therefore, the Beytepe Campus was established on a 1,500-hectare site in Beytepe, 20 kilometers from the Sıhhiye Campus. As of 2020, Hacettepe University continues its activities with fifteen faculties, fifteen institutes, two colleges, one conservatory, four vocational schools, and ninety-eight research and application centers.
