How Mufti Majins Mislead the Ummah | Shaykh Asrar Rashid Who has the authority to issue Fatwas? He warns against what he describes as Mufti Majins—corrupt muftis who issue erroneous and sensational Fatwas to gain popularity while departing from the established methodology of Sunni scholarship. Firstly, it explains Ma’lum min al-Din bi’l-Darurah (matters known in the religion by necessity), such as belief in Allah ﷻ, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Finality of the Prophethood of Sayyiduna Muhammad ﷺ, and the obligation of the five daily prayers. These are foundational beliefs upon which the Ummah has complete consensus. Finally, he explains the significance of adhering to the four Sunni Madhhabs, arguing that deliberately issuing Fatwas outside their established legal methodology leads to anomalous opinions (Shudhudh) and misguidance (Dalalah). The lecture also highlights how some individuals intentionally blur these three categories, presenting matters that are firmly established in Islam as though they are merely academic differences of opinion. Shaykh Asrar Rashid addresses contemporary examples, including the rejection of the physical ascension of Sayyiduna ’Isa (ʿalayhi al-salam), attempts to undermine the doctrine of the Finality of Prophethood (Khatm al-Nubuwwah), and the misuse of isolated opinions from classical Fiqh texts to justify modern rulings that contradict the established positions of the four Madhhabs. The lecture concludes by emphasizing the importance of preserving the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama’ah, respecting scholarly consensus, and seeking religious guidance from qualified scholars rooted in the classical Islamic tradition.
