Zu Fuß über die Alpen - E5 abseits der Massenpfade

Long-distance hiking is booming – thousands set off on foot each year on the European long-distance hiking trail E5 across the Alps. The section between Oberstdorf and Merano is particularly popular. What's the truth behind the hype surrounding the E5? The film also showcases alternatives, off the beaten track. Eckhard Schlöder and Reinhold Rühl are passionate mountain hikers. For a long time, they hesitated to "tackle" the E5. The 7-day Alpine crossing on foot has become very popular thanks to numerous press and television reports, and the crowds at the mountain huts along the E5 are correspondingly large. Commercial mountaineering schools favor the route via the Martin Busch Hut and the Similaun Glacier. Hundreds of hikers can be found there every day during peak season. The classic trail, on the other hand, leads over the Timmelsjoch Pass through pristine landscapes into the world of South Tyrol's mountain dwellers. _________________________________________________ Our stages (from Oberstdorf/Spielmannsau) Day 1: Holzgau (Lechtal Valley) Day 2: Ansbacher Hütte Day 3: Zams Ski Hut Day 4: Braunschweiger Hütte Day 5: Zwieselstein Day 6: Moos in Passeier Day 7: Hintereggalm (Meran Alps) Day 8: Bolzano via Merano We used the Rother hiking guide "Long-Distance Hiking Trail E5" from the Bergverlag publishing house of the same name. Many of the alternative stages are also described there.
