Barbra Streisand talks about the multiple challenges making Yentl - as producer, star and director.

In the early 1980’s there were few bigger global entertainment names than singer, Broadway star and actress Barbra Streisand. Significantly, Barbra turned 80 on April 24, 2022. But in 1983 she took on multiple-challenges with the making of Yentl, the story of a young Jewish woman who, when her father dies, poses as a man to increase her knowledge, and to gain admission to a Jewish religious school. Barbra became the first woman since the silent era to direct, produce, co-write, star and sing in a feature film. It was an extraordinary effort, and one that would provoke a crossfire of criticism from within the movie industry, as well as from the public and film critics. However, Yentl went on to win the Oscar for Best Music, Original Song Score and Its Adaptation or Best Adaptation Score and a Golden Globe Best Director Award for Barbra. I spoke to her, by phone, from her home in Los Angeles, shortly after the film’s release. Barbra Streisand's most recent films are The Guilt Trip and Little Fockers. In mid 2021 Barbra released her latest album, a new collection of ten previously unreleased studio performances called, appropriately, Release Me 2. PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, IT'S FREE.
