Tangoette

The Tangoette appeared about 1939 and was originated in Melbourne by Gerald Hales. A new vogue sequence dance now accepted as old time, the Tangoette is based on Tango movements and the music characteristically tango style tunes. In the ballroom it can be danced to actual tango music, but in the Old Time social dance scene it is generally danced to beguine or habanera music. The contemporary Tangoette of the ballroom is close to the original form except the waltz step turns at the end of sequence have been replaced by a tango step box turn. An earlier and intermediate social dance form in the old time circuit used a Parma Waltz type hold and a dip and slide on one knee to the floor.
