The House Wants You

In my ongoing journey through Folk Horror, I’m returning to a theme that has always haunted me: the architecture of the predator. In this track, the house isn't just a setting—it’s the absolute protagonist. I’ve always been fascinated by how literature portrays the "home" as a living entity. In writing this, I drew inspiration from the long, dark shadows of masters like Michael McDowell and his house-shells, the sealing fate of Jean Ray’s corridors, the entropic geometry of Danielewski, the sadistic trials of Matheson, and the parasitic, vampiric nature of Marasco’s Burnt Offerings. "The House Wants You" is my invitation into a space that breathes, watches, and hungers. A place where the bricks remembers and the light filters through like a sickly, ancient eye. Step inside. The house has been waiting for you. 🏠 Litany: You rent the room upstairs From a house that never sleeps It learns the shape of your steps Then keeps them in its beams You hang your coat by the stair It breathes on the wood below The walls lean close at night Like they already know It hated your keys It hated your laugh It watched your light Through the crack in the hall When you said, "I'm home" The hinges went still Like something old and hungry Had found its fill The house wants you The house wants you It wants your name in the dark The house wants you The house wants you It wants your heart, not your mark (Stay in me) (Stay in me) Your mug on the sink Got a ring like a bruise Your boots by the mat Kept disappearing in twos The wallpaper sweated A damp, bitter stain And every framed picture Turned its face toward the rain It hated your phone It hated your songs It hated the way You could live there alone When you crossed the floor It tightened the boards Like jealous hands Behind locked doors The house wants you The house wants you It wants your name in the dark The house wants you The house wants you It wants your heart, not your mark (Stay in me) (Stay in me) Last night in the hall You found the old lease Signed in a name That isn't yours, nor mine The ink had bled Like a fresh wet throat And the date on the page Was this very night The house wants you The house wants you It wants your name in the dark The house wants you The house wants you It wants your heart, not your mark The house wants you The house wants you It keeps your breath in the cracks The house wants you The house wants you And it never gives you back (Stay in me) (Stay in me) #darkfolk #ballad #hauntedhouse #gothicfolk #darkpoetry #folkhorror
