A Quiet Forest Morning | Solo Tarp Camp in Thetford Forest (Pt.2)
See part 1 here; • A Simple Woodland Camp | Thetford Forest After a calm and comfortable night under the tarp in Thetford Forest, the morning begins quietly among the pines. But with the woodland still damp from weeks of rain, getting the stove going again proves to be a bit of a challenge. With the last of the semi-dry birch bark nearly gone, a carefully whittled feather stick from the driest wood I had saved finally does the trick and brings the Honey Stove back to life. Breakfast is well worth the effort — a proper bacon sandwich followed by more bacon, eggs and tomatoes to get the blood flowing before packing up camp. After that it’s time to leave the forest as I found it and follow the trails back out through the pines, ending another simple but satisfying night in the woods. If you missed Part 1, that’s where the real struggle was — trying to get a fire going with everything soaked from weeks of rain.
