How to Drain all the Oil from the Kawasaki Vulcan 750

Welcome to the Checkered Floor Garage. Earlier this year I published an oil change video procedure    • How to Change the Oil on a Kawasaki Vulcan...   for the VN750, but I never drained the oil from the bottom/underside of the engine 17mm drain bolt...because I never knew about it until someone commented on my video! So here in this video, I show why it's important to drain the oil from both locations: the bottom 17mm drain bolt and the left side oil screen. Enjoy! Patch Notes: 12-Oct-2023: Here's a post on VN750.com showing what small metal bits of clutch material look like in the oil screen. This is common on these bikes and often not a big issue at all. https://www.vn750.com/threads/metal-i... Here is the playlist of videos I have made detailing other maintenance & service items on this bike.    • Kawasaki Vulcan 750 Maintenance & Service   Here is the playlist of videos I have made detailing modifications to the Vulcan 750:    • Kawasaki Vulcan 750 Mods   Here is the oil analysis results from Blackstone for some of my previous oil changes (most recently the oil analysis from 18,000 to 22,000 miles). When I ride 3,500 miles on this new (to me) Shell Rotella oil, I will collect another sample so I may compare it against Motul. When I do this, I will update the post below and also probably make a video talking about it. https://www.vn750.com/threads/heres-a... Unsure if you should prefill the oil filter or not with oil? I think it's worth it to prefill...check out this video. It offers better protection this way according to the research done here:    • Does Pre-FILLING The Oil FILTER Cause Engi...   Patch Notes: 27-Sep-2023: I learned from the VN750.com that there should be a crush washer with that bottom oil drain bolt. My bike doesn't have one (it wasn't with the bolt when I removed it nor was it stuck to the bottom of the engine) so I will get one the next time I do an oil change in 2024. Make sure to use a new crush washer when you do the oil change. Without the crush washer, that oil drain bolt will just stop when you're retightening it and it could be easy to overtighten and strip it. The crush washer provides some "cushion" so it's easier to tighten and torque down the drain bolt appropriately.
