Eating Black Fish in a Little Fuzhou Town | Sitiawan

I ate strange food in Sitiawan—things I didn't even know existed. I found myself staring at a bowl of "bloody red" chicken soup in a house with no signboard, and later, eating fish and chips as black as night. It’s a town that doesn't apologize for its grit, from the "spooky" heat inside a giant dragon’s belly to the roadside stalls with no English menus. My journey was a series of raw contradictions, uncovering a Fuzhou heritage that feels as deep as it is surprising. I queued in the charcoal smoke for a shattering Gong Pian and found luxury in a glass cafe tucked among old wooden houses. This is the Sitiawan I found—unfiltered, traditional, and a little bit strange.
