Duet for Marya Vlasyevna and Bastryukov & No. 6. Scene 34:50 Episode 4 No. 7. Scene 41:40 No. 8a. Quartet 47:00 Episode 5 No. 8b. Scene 53:35 No. 9. Finale & Sextet with Chorus 56:55 Performed by Vladimir Matorin (bass), Leonid Zimnenko (bass), Aleksandra Fatkina (soprano) Galina Kuznetsova (soprano), Lyudmila Bondarenko (soprano), Anatoly Mishchevsky (tenor), Oleg Klenov (baritone), Yulina Abramovskaya (mezzo), Vladimir Svistov (bass), Vyacheslav Voynarovsky (tenor), Nina Isakova (mezzo) with the Moscow Radio Large Chorus and USSR Ministry of Culture Symphony Orchestra conducted by Volodymyr Kozhukhar. As noted by tchaikovsky-research.net : No. 1. The opening chorus includes the folk-tune 'A Little Duckling Swan on the Sea' , which Tchaikovsky later arranged as No. 23 of Fifty Russian Folksongs. This whole section was re-used in Act I (No. 2) of the opera The Oprichnik No. 2. The ending of the Duet (from bar 130) was re-used in Act I (No. 3) of The Oprichnik No. 3. Music for this Scena was re-used in Act I (No. 4) of The Oprichnik No. 4. Part of Bastryukov's Aria (bars 13–33) is based on a short episode from the overture to The Storm No. 5. The Andante non troppo episode (from bar 47) is based on part of movt. III from the cantata Ode to Joy No. 7. The opening Allegretto comodo section was reworked in the opening scena (Act I, No. 1) from The Oprichnik while bars 127–198 are based on part of the Overture in C minor No. 9.
