A freewheel pulley smooths the operation of the ribbed V-belt, thus protecting the accessory drive components. This reduces noise and fuel consumption. A faulty freewheel pulley causes strong vibrations in the ribbed V-belt. High forces are then exerted on the accessory drive components and can, for example, cause the belt tensioner to break. INA special tooling (part number 400 0444 10) can be used for the correct inspection and replacement of freewheel pulleys. Furthermore, one in four vehicles is now equipped with a freewheel pulley (OAP/OAD).
