Albertinia is very well known for its Aloes and Aloe factories. A village 50 km west of Mossel Bay on the N2 on the way to Cape Town, at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains and fondly referred to as the home of the aloe. It was laid out in 1900 on a farm Grootfontein and became a municipality in 1920. The name is derived from the surname of Johannes Rudolf Albertyn (1847-1920). The first Dutch reformed minister to serve the community.
