Recruiting Iraqi Police in Ramadi, Iraq - June, 2006
At the height of violence and the Al Qeada in Ramadi, Iraq in 2006, U.S. Marines and soldiers worked with the local sheik to recruit men into the police force. Sheik Sittar Abu Risha was helping the Coalition bring more men into the force, which eventually helped turn the tide in Anbar Province, Iraq in the Fall of 2006. The Awakening began with a secret meetings with a handful of Iraqis and US service members in August 2006. Video report by U.S. Marine Combat Correspondent Amy Forsythe for The Pentagon Channel.
