The end of an era and a bitter farewell to the world stage: Uruguay is eliminated in the group stage after a 1-0 defeat against Spain. At the center of it all is goalkeeper legend Fernando Muslera, whose costly blunder led to Alex Baena's decisive goal. It wasn't his first mistake in this tournament. A rather harmless shot from Alex Baena in the first half proved decisive. Goalkeeper Muslera misjudged the bouncing ball and had to pick the ball out of the net. Uruguay's cult coach, Bielsa, pulled the plug at halftime, substituting Muslera. Spain switched to cruise control in the second half and were hardly tested by a harmless Uruguayan side. The game only became heated again in the final stages. After a hard tackle, Uruguay's Agustín Canobbio was sent off with a red card.
