British forces boarded and detained the sanctioned oil tanker Smyrtos in the English Channel on June 14, in the UK's first operation targeting Russia's shadow fleet. Royal Marines and National Crime Agency officials searched the Cameroon-flagged vessel, which Britain says helps fund Russia's war in Ukraine.
