20 years since the Queen of the North ran aground, sank off northern B.C. coast
It has been 20 years since the sinking of B.C. Ferries' Queen of the North. But for many who survived the 2006 tragedy, the two decades since have passed in the blink of an eye. A deckhand filling in as the ferry’s fourth officer Karl Lilgert was convicted of criminal negligence and served time, but a lack of clarity around why Lilgert missed a critical turn has left many without closure.
