Sing-Along with Mele Fong | Manuela Boy (Song with story, strum, lyrics, and chords)

Experience a “Sing-Along with Mele Fong” class as Mele on ukulele and husband Rich on u-bass led students in playing Manuela Boy with Latin Strum as the song lyrics and ukulele chords were projected on the large screen at Kaunoa Senior Center for adults 55 and better on Maui. We sang the song twice and learned the story behind the song in keeping with Hawaiian oral history traditions. Manuela Boy was written by Johnny Noble in 1938. Hilo Hattie, the comic hula dancer, recorded the song in 1940 and made it popular. This arrangement is a mix of the original and variations on numerous verses. This song was part of the “Sing-Along Hawaiian Party Songs” one-hour class on January 30, 2023, with 17 students signed up.
