Why Everyone Needs To Prioritize Functional Training | Thomas Myers Full Interview
We’ve effectively built a “zoo” for ourselves, creating a disconnect between our biology and the world we live in. Here, Tom and Naudi break down why prioritizing your biological reality over modern vanity is essential for long-term health and performance. In a world built for sedentary behavior, our genetics still expect the right kinds of movement to function properly. That mismatch is showing up as chronic pain, poor posture, and even anxiety. Traditional training often prioritizes short-term, aesthetic outcomes that don’t translate to long-term health or actual function. As a result, people are getting stronger in isolated ways, but not more capable as a resilient human. True health requires addressing the three primary systems that span the entire body: the nervous, circulatory, and fascial systems. While chemistry and psychology play a role, what’s often missing is how the body organizes itself through space, what could be considered a form of spatial medicine. In this discussion, they break down: • The evolutionary mismatch between modern environments and human biology • How mechano-transduction influences cellular behavior and adaptation • Why the shape and tension placed on tissues directly impacts function • How anxiety can stem from an internal conflict between the urge to move and the inhibition to do so • The role of connective tissue, including glial cells, in organizing brain function and perception When you begin to align your body and improve how you move through space, the nervous system can downregulate, posture begins to organize, and strength becomes something that actually lasts. Every cell in your body is influenced by the mechanical inputs it receives. The positions you spend time in and the forces you expose your body to shape how your tissues adapt, how your nervous system regulates, and ultimately how you function. When your mechanics are aligned, you create the conditions for a more parasympathetic, anabolic state where the body can actually recover, adapt, and perform the way it was designed to. Stop chasing symptoms and start addressing the root cause in how your body moves and functions. Stop chasing symbols and start focusing on the objective reality of your mechanics. ⸻ #FunctionalPatterns #Fascia #Movement #Biomechanics #AnatomyTrains Online Programs: https://functionalpatterns.com/collec...
