Bench Vise Retrofit with Shaper Origin

My workbench has no vise! I'm going to add a Pony Jorgensen 27091: https://www.amazon.com/Pony-27091-9-I... The vise has no instructions whatsoever, and it is more of a challenge to install because the workbench is already built. Also, a key feature for me is that the rear jaw face must be flush with the workbench. The hardest step is to cut a very large and deep mortise into the existing workbench, and the mortise has to be just the right size for the rear jaw to snuggle into. For that I used my Shaper Origin handheld CNC router. The mortise is only part of the process. Here are all of the installation steps: (1) Create digital file for rear jaw mortise (or if you don’t have Shaper Origin, create a template for a non-CNC router) (2) Place and rout the mortise; hand-finish as needed. (3) Make the wood face for the rear jaw. Size a bit thicker than final thickness. (4) Countersink and drill attachment holes for rear jaw face (Pony vise uses m6 by 25mm cap head screws) (5) Test fit rear jaw face and add clearance if needed for front jaw rails (6) Attach rear jaw to workbench (I used #14 by 2 inch sheet metal screws set in epoxy) (7) Attach rear jaw face to rear jaw (8) Plane rear jaw face flush with workbench (9) Attach front jaw (10) Make wood face for front jaw (11) Attach front jaw face by clamping it into position with vise, predrilling and using 4 wood screws (I used #10 by ¾ inch, but a little longer might be better – just don’t go through the face).
