The dictatorship in Nicaragua is becoming increasingly evident; recently, the head of the regime in the Central American nation, Daniel Ortega, ruled out holding new elections during a speech. In light of this, NTN 24 News spoke with Juan Sebastián Chamorro, an exiled opposition member and former Nicaraguan presidential candidate. “What the world really gains is that we are giving ourselves this opportunity for the world to realize what Daniel Ortega truly is and has been his entire life: an autocrat, a despot, a cynic, and a coward,” he stated. The former presidential candidate sees this measure announced by Ortega as an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the Central American nation that has been subjected to this dictatorship for more than a decade. “There hasn’t been democracy since 2007; he has truly destroyed all the institutions, the State has stolen the elections. We have been saying for years how Daniel Ortega has been doing this, and the international community hasn’t given it the attention it deserves, given other equally important regional problems,” stated Juan Sebastián Chamorro.
