Louis Massett grew up inside the Society of St. Pius X and spent his school years at the SSPX academy in St. Mary's, Kansas. In Traddyland: Memoir of a Radical Traditional Catholic, he writes about what that formation did to a family, a town, and a boy who believed every word of it. Lou has told this story on a lot of podcasts. Before we taped, I asked him what nobody had asked him yet. He gave me two answers, and this conversation is built around both of them. The first is radicalization itself. How does a devout Catholic family cross the line from love of tradition into something closed and controlling? What are the early markers?
