This was revealed by journalist Héctor de Mauleón, and comes after the governor denied seeking a deal with the United States. In the recording, she states her willingness to share information with the U.S., including details about security meetings. During the conversation, Ávila is told that the U.S. government is not interested in speaking with her. A discussion between her lawyer and a prosecutor is also mentioned, and she is denied details of the charges against her. At one point, the governor states that she has attended several meetings with FBI officials, including representatives from the Department of Justice, insisting that these meetings were at their request. However, an intermediary emphasizes that the agencies do not seek out individuals under investigation. The mediator and the individual indicate that there is "frustration" because the three meetings she mentions having had with the United States government have not been productive. Finally, the audio concludes with the intermediary explaining to Del Pilar Ávila that, should she wish to speak, the meeting would take place between her lawyer and the Attorney General. The Governor of Baja California insists that this not be held in the United States or at the consulate in Tijuana, and therefore proposes holding it at a hotel.
