The Routemaster Of The Midlands: The Story Of The BMMO D9

The 1950's saw the development of an advanced front engine, rear loading double decker bus. It would see many years of service in the cities it operated in but was only designed and built for one operator. Oh and it's NOT a Routemaster... I am of course referring to the BMMO D9. Designed, built and operated by Midland Red. This is the story of what many have described as the pinnacle of Birmingham & Midland Motor Omnibus design, the D9 double decker bus. I hope you enjoy this special Midlands edition of Classic Bus Histories. It's nice to be able to tell you the story of another red double decker bus but not one from London. If you do enjoy it please like and share the video and don't forget to comment too. Have you driven a D9? Ridden on one? Or were they part of your streetscape growing up. When I was about ten , I was bought a book about Midland Red and BMMO buses and coaches. But of a strange choice as I'd never been to the Midlands and can - even now - count the amount of times I've been there on one hand. However, I fell in love with the quirky looking D9 with its set back front axle and almost ECW bodywork curves. I look forward to reading your memories and connections to the D9 below. #bus #bmmo #busvideo #d9 #midlands #midlandred #doubledeck #vintagebus
