How Touristy is Venice?

Venice, Italy is an incredibly beautiful and historic city. But it is one of many destinations in the world facing serious problems from overtourism. Too many visitors are causing overcrowding, higher prices, and problems for the locals. Plus with Venice specifically there are many environmental impacts to consider and you often here the phrase "Venice is sinking." The sad reality of Venice is that it used to be home to 120,000 residents but now only houses around 50,000. In large part to mass tourism in the area. In an effort to combat this problem the city also just started charging tourists 5 euros per day to visit Venice. But this has been met with a lot of backlash because locals believe charging tourists to enter a city makes it almost like an amusement park or museum. They are also implementing limits to the size of tour groups who can enter the city. The extremely large groups coming from all over the world and on cruise ships really congest the narrow streets of Venice. So in this video I show you what Venice looks like at the end of May 2024. There are definitely a significant number of tourists making the alleys and canals feel tighter. But you can also find relaxed and tranquil parts of the city.
