Complacency
This Safety Minute looks at complacency and how it is a natural mechanism of the mind. This occurs as the mind needs ways to function that reduce stress and energy used to complete tasks. To accomplish this this the mind uses muscle memory and habits to take over when we are not 100% focused on then tasks. Proactive ways to work with this natural behavior is to utilize a job hazard assessment to briefly engage the mind and control the hazards prior to having complacency set in. Another method is to form positive habits so when complacency sets in our brains are trained to revert to a habit that controls energy.
