Spring Whitewater, Trout Fishing, Old Growth | Is Ranger Lake Loop Still A Lost Route?

https://frankderesti.bandcamp.com/tra... https://jaycase.bandcamp.com/track/awake Sometimes, you have to return to an area to fully understand and appreciate its magnificence. This is certainly true for the Algoma Headwaters Signature Site, often referred to as the Ranger Lake Loop. Having made our first extended 8 day canoe trip back in 2022, this is the jumping off place for all of our adventures. The place it all started. . We initially came because the route was "lost" and wild, rarely traveled by paddlers. We sought remote wilderness and were not disappointed. However, since that first trip we've learned much more about the area and the significance of the old growth forest that remains there. It's one of the very last forests that have never been logged in Northern Ontario, which makes it extremely special and precious. Seeing what a natural, unmanaged forest looks like is basically impossible for the vast majority of people. Even reaching this old growth forest is only possible by float plane, or at least 4 days of hard work paddling, portaging and upstream travel on rivers just to reach the forest. Then you have to get back! . Because of its remoteness and inaccessibility, the wildlife and fishing opportunities you encounter are almost unmatched anywhere. This part of the Algoma Headwaters Signature site is a non-operating park of the same name. Its portages were hidden and unmaintained and campsites were hard to find on our first trek through the area. Now, it looks like Ontario Parks have taken steps to turn it into an operating park, where they'll charge fees and publish advertising to bring more paddlers and hikers to the park. They've added portage and campsite signs along the route, created several new campsites and cleared some of the tough portages. We're not sure how we feel about it. It's going to add pressure to the area's animal population and bring in more traffic, which means more possibilities for garbage and over-fishing around the areas pristine lakes and rivers. But, the old saying goes that if you don't use it, you lose it. . Follow us on our 9 day journey through this most magical place while we paddle crystal clear lakes and run whitewater down pristine rivers. Battling logjams and brushy portages, encountering wildlife and no other humans for the entire time. Our perfect canoe trip. We hope you love it as much as we do. . . #THISISHOWWECAMP #getoutside #crownland #winter #camping #canada #ontario #offgrid #whiteduck ...
