Ride Canadian built Mikado SNCF 141R into the Jura Mountains - Part 2

On September 9th, 2017, Steam Adventure Tours organized an excursion with Montreal Locomotive Works built 2-8-2 Mikado SNCF 141R #1244. The excursion into the Jura Mountains up to the border village of Les Verrières had the train running from Zurich via Baden, Brugg, Aarau, Olten to Oensingen, where the engine took water. Then, the train run alongside the Jura mountains via Solothurn, Biel to Neuchatel, where it began the climb up the Val de Travers all the way to Les Verrières. From Les Verrières, the train run backwards, pulled by an Ae 6/6 to Lyss, with a side trip deeper into the Travers valley to St. Sulpice to pay a visit to the local steam train museum (Vapeur Val de Travers, VVT). The travelers were very nicely received and admired the local collection of steam engines and other vintage railroad equipment. Also, at St. Sulpice, the 141R took water again. To help switch our heavy train, the VVT employed an German built BR 52 steam engine. In the evening, the train then run back to Zurich from Lyss via Biel, Olten, Aarau, Brugg and Baden, once again pulled solely by steam power, i.e. our venerable Mikado 141R #1244.
