Beksan Menak Rengganis-Widaninggar (Yogyakarta) Beksan Menak Rengganis–Widaninggar is a classical Javanese court dance originating from the Yogyakarta tradition. The story is derived from the Serat Menak, a cycle of Javanese literature adapted from Persian and Islamic tales, particularly the heroic stories of Amir Hamzah. This dance portrays the encounter and conflict between two powerful female warriors: Rengganis, a refined yet strong princess, and Widaninggar, a bold and assertive opponent. Through graceful movements, controlled gestures, and precise footwork—drawing on an imitation and personification of wayang golek as envisioned by Hamengkubuwono IX—the choreography reflects both elegance and inner strength.
