Marathon Return on Investment 4: Why South Relay is a Death Trap
Struggling to complete the Traxus Return on Investment 4 contract because DCON exfil campers keep erasing your high-tier gear? Dying repeatedly at South Relay or Station trying to deliver Anomalous Wire and Amygdala Drives? In this video, we break down two very different deployments on the Perimeter map that show why delivery zones are absolute death traps. -- Quick Facts / TL;DR -- Faction: Traxus Contract: Return on Investment [4/5] Map: Perimeter, Tau Ceti IV Objectives: Deliver Altered Wire or Anomalous Wire (0/3), Deliver Storage Drives or Amygdala Drives (0/3), Exfil Storage Drives, Amygdala Drives, or Predictive Frameworks (5/6). High-Risk Zones: South Relay and Station are major DCON hubs where delivery campers wait to ambush solo and squad runners. Loadout Synergy: Using close-range high-DPS weapons like the WSTR Combat Shotgun and stealth implants like Hurting Hands V2 (Spectre Protocol). Budget Alternative: Run the zero-risk Traxus Sponsored Kit with the Hardline PR precision rifle to safely navigate high-traffic delivery zones. -- Core Strategy Breakdown -- Expanding your faction rep with Traxus is one of the most rewarding challenges in Marathon. However, the Return on Investment 4 contract represents a massive roadblock for solo and squad runners alike. The contract requires delivering multiple high-value pieces of salvage, including Anomalous Wire and Amygdala Drives, directly to a DCON converter. In our first deployment, we went all-in on high-tier gear to secure the Perimeter map. We ran the powerful WSTR Combat Shotgun alongside the CE Tactical Sidearm, a standard semiautomatic backup pistol. We paired this with Leg and Torso implants, specifically Graceful Landings V2 (+20 Fall Resistance) and Hurting Hands V2. Hurting Hands V2 provides the incredible Spectre Protocol perk, which grants brief invisibility upon triggering an elimination. This build is extremely lethal in close quarters, allowing you to dominate tight corridors around South Relay. During this run, we looted multiple high-value safes, securing a Magnum MC Schema, Surveillance Lens V2, and a Data Card. But as we pushed toward the South Relay DCON converter to deliver our salvage, we were ambushed and wiped by exfil campers. Losing high-value gear to gatekeepers is an incredibly painful experience that many Marathon players are facing in Season 2. For our second deployment, we decided to minimize our risk and went with a zero-cost Traxus Sponsored Kit. This free loadout provided us with standard armor and the versatile Hardline PR Precision Rifle. The Hardline PR is a semi-automatic rifle using Light Rounds, featuring a high rate of fire but lower damage per shot. It is an excellent tool for mid-range poking and zoning, making it ideal for checking delivery points from a distance. Our plan was to move stealthily through the swamps and use a Signal Jammer utility consumable to scramble our profile. The Signal Jammer is a crucial consumable that temporarily obscures your visual profile from hostile Runners and sensors. We successfully navigated the Perimeter marshes and secured a Folio and additional materials. However, as we approached the Station DCON delivery site, a coordinated squad surrounded us. Despite our stealth pathing and jammer utility, we were pinned against the DCON structures and eliminated once again. The hard truth about Return on Investment 4/5 is that gear and utility cannot replace perfect timing and recon scans. -- Video Chapters & Timestamps -- 00:00 - Vault Customization: Build Theory & Gear Select 01:21 - Dropping into Perimeter: Running High-Tier 03:11 - Return on Investment Contract Tracking & Objectives 04:14 - South Relay Looting: Wall Safes & MC Schemas 06:01 - Snagging Surveillance Lens V2 & Data Cards 06:29 - Ambushed at South Relay: Losing All Gear 06:42 - Lobby: Sponsored Kit Drafting & Hardline PR 07:58 - Second Drop: Marsh Running & Stealth Pathing 09:15 - Wild Salvage: Finding the Signal Jammer 10:25 - Station Shootout: Surrounded by DCON Campers 12:00 - Run Over: Spectating & Post-Match Breakdown -- Support the Channel -- If this breakdown helped you survive your Perimeter runs, make sure to subscribe and hit the bell for more guides.
