Badminton racket stringing video tutorial.
This is my concise guide to stringing a badminton racket using a 6 point crank stringing machine. I've tried several different variations of string patterns and knots, but this yields the most reliable repeatable results. Cranking each string pull 3 times is important as it stretches the string and it will hold its tension better over time. Add 2 pounds to the tie off pull to maintain an even overall tension as it compensates for the slack during the tie off. I've attempted to show in detail the starting and tie off knots. The above video should describe clearly all that's needed to know to string a racket. A string puller is indispensable to help thread the string through some of the tight spots such as shared grommets. At least 3 floating clamps are required to clamp the strings at various points during the stringing process. I don't add additional tension for the cross string as i've found it makes no appreciable difference as the racket shape is maintained correctly. Do not skimp on string, half the racket is string and using $5 string on a $200 dollar racket makes absolutely no sense. Not all strings will suit everybody, i have my personal favorites. Thinner strings are nicer. 0.69mm - 0.67mm plays a whole lot nicer than 0.70mm strings at the expense of some durability. In the end, the proof is on the court, and with the method of stringing I've described, the racket plays well with minimum tension loss over time until the string breaks. I've noticed that the sweet spot for some of the current strings that i use including Yonex N95, N99, BG80 and Ashaway 67 are between 26-28 pounds on medium flex rackets for the best combination of sound, power, touch etc. Ultimately tension is a personal preference and it will take some while trying different combinations of string tension and rackets to decide what will work best for you. asmd.
