Maria Valtorta - Quaderni - 22 novembre 1943: La redenta del Vangelo umiliò tre doni ai piedi miei
The redeemed one of the Gospel humbled three gifts at my feet: her heart through tears, her flesh through hair, her mind through perfume. Jesus says: "Let us love one another, O beloved, and speak of love, for nothing is sweeter to one who loves than this. The redeemed one of the Gospel, like the three wise men who adored my incarnate Divinity, humbled three gifts at my feet: her heart through tears, her flesh through hair, her mind through perfume. You must equally give everything, holding nothing back, not even the breath of life. "Mighty waters cannot quench love—and floods cannot sweep it away. If anyone were to exchange all his substance for love, he would fall into great contempt." The waters that are meant to quench love are given by all the things of life, its cares and even its needs. The floods, from the will of others that seek to prevent the spirit from giving itself entirely to its God. But the true lover takes no account of the former and is not frightened by the latter. Above all that constitutes the preoccupation of life for others, he places what is his own vital necessity: loving his God. A spirit absorbed, and I might say, "absorbed" in God, he lives already projected beyond what constitutes so-called "life" for others. He, a holy overturner of human values, sees only one goal to achieve: not his own interest but God's; he cares for only one thing: conquering Life without regard for the poor earthly life that is a flower that lasts only a short time on the stem. Gentle, because he is already one with his God, he becomes a lion when he must defend that treasure, and family and social persecution cannot overwhelm this enraged spirit, but rather, like the waves of an angry sea, they swiftly carry him to the shore, to the heart of God. Oh! Most blessed torments of my lovers, of these knowers and savorers of the Truth, who, like the author of the Song of Songs, say—not with empty words but with the true words of a whole life lived and consumed for this purpose—that even if one were to give all of one's possessions to conquer Love, one would still give little, because even the gift of an earthly day is paltry coin compared to the possession of Love, which is infinite. Give me, then, all of you, without reserve. The iron that is melted in the crucible emerges more beautiful. The soul, melted and consumed by love, is reborn as a flower of eternity in the celestial flowerbeds. That is where I want you. But first you must still undergo the work of our two loves: yours as a creature for Me, mine as a God for you. When these two acts of violence have robbed you of your entire self, then I will come to lead you to Peace.
