On March 28, 2026, the ninth modern-day edition of the Nordenskiöldsloppet will take place. The 220 km tracked course leads through untouched wilderness north of the Arctic Circle, following a historic ski route from 1884. Back then, polar explorer Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld organized the race to prove that his expedition members could cover long distances in a short amount of time. The 1884 winner was Pavva Lasse Nilsson Tuorda, with a time of 21 hours and 22 minutes—which also serves as the medal time for today's race. The race is held in classic style and is open to both elite and recreational skiers looking for the ultimate endurance test on a pair of skis. After the starting gun at 05:00, skiers have 30 hours to complete the race. Along the course, aid stations await to provide participants with all the energy they need.
