Because it's such a busy time, we'll explain in detail the "three steps" to building trust with children, which we want you to stop and be mindful of. Building trust isn't about adults giving instructions and making children obey; it begins with getting to know each other and creating a safe and secure environment. 1. Observe (Watch) Instead of simply following actions, pay attention to the "emotions" behind those actions. The first step is to read what state the child is in from their non-verbal expressions and gestures. 2. Matching (Pacing): This is the most crucial part of this lesson. Before leading at an adult's pace, first synchronize (match) your own perspective, expressions, and pace with the child's. This sense of security—"It's okay because we're together"—nurtures the child's willingness to try new things. 3. Putting it into Words: Verbalize the child's feelings and convey the message, "I value your feelings." Even if things don't go exactly as the child hoped, the feeling that their feelings were acknowledged greatly influences the subsequent relationship of trust. By diligently building upon these three steps throughout April, as May and June progress, children will become more confident and able to participate more independently.
