BRITISH RAILWAYS IN THE 2010's The British Pullman Train in the Guildford/Shalford area 9th + 14th February 2013 On these two days I was capturing on film some shots of Steam Locomotive 'Clan Line' 35028 with the VSOE stock on The Golden Age of Travel (Luncheon Special) from London Victoria to Shalford. Both the days were very bright and bitterly cold. The first location is from between the two tunnels South of Guildford Station, Chalk Tunnel and St. Catherines Tunnel. Here amongst the busy Portsmouth line EMU Class 450s are seen and on the North Downs Route to Redhill are the FGW Turbo's Class 165 and 166 and of course 35028 'Clan Line' bursting out of Chalk Tunnel on her way to Shalford. I moved to the next location about half a mile from Shalford Station on the same day and filmed 35028's departure from the Station , now on her return to London Victoria via The North Downs Route. Finally on 'Valentines' Day the 14th, another lovely Winter's day (No I never got a card) a stunning shot from a location I have never tried and a little tricky to get to, on the Portsmouth Direct Line South of Shalford Junction, from the footbridge which offered a wonderful panoramic view of trains coming off and taking the North Downs Route. Again Class 444 and 450 racing past on the rails below me and across the field from me were the 165/166s taking the route towards Redhill. A splendid shot of 'Clan Line' was captured, heading for Shalford and London Victoria. I hope this video takes you back to the period with fond memories.
