The "Threshold Effect" Then you're not alone: This phenomenon is well-known in psychology and even has its own name: the "threshold effect." The theory behind it: Our brain automatically divides our everyday experiences into episodes. When we enter a new room, a new episode begins for us. And thus, the information from the previous episode is "covered" by new information and is more easily forgotten. But what helps against this forgetfulness? Spoiler alert: According to science, it's not what you might have thought. Simply going back to the original room and trying to remember what you wanted to do over there doesn't work, according to researchers. What really helps against the threshold effect? Let's try to find out in today's episode! ``` ________________________ ◾ Director: Gina Buhl ◾ Editors: Michael Keller, Ramona Drosner ◾ Hosts: Kathrin Hönegger, Tobias Müller © 2023 SRF ________________________ This is Einstein²: In Einstein², the "Einstein" hosts Kathrin Hönegger and Tobias Müller regularly discuss a scientific fact.
