The term "Messianic" designates a Congregation that believes in Messiah Yeshua/Jesus, values God's eternal covenant with the Jewish people and has worship services that reflect some level of Jewish culture. Beyond those basics, Congregations differ very widely in their doctrine and practice. Some Congregations encourage Mosaic Law observance while others teach a Grace centered Messianic faith. Some are Charismatic in culture while others are not. There are several 'umbrella' Associations of Congregations, these differ in several areas and membership is purely voluntary. The word 'Messianic' does not guarantee sound Biblical teaching as there is no central standard. There are many good Messianic Congregations that are sound in doctrine, and others that are lacking. Systematic Theology is a way of organizing doctrines and beliefs resulting from Biblical investigation, and in some groups, long held traditions. So what is Messianic Systematic Theology? It is not an alternative to a Biblically sound evangelical theology, but emphasizes the actual Biblical covenants and covenant relationships and God's plan for the Jewish people, often ignored by otherwise good evangelical doctrinal statements. A quick check of Doctrinal Statements or 'Belief pages' on Messianic Congregation websites reveals they are frequently copies of one another, and in our experience, often lacking in basics. Thus the need for this series. It was filmed at the Ariel Messianic Summer Bible School at Camp Shoshanah July 2026 before a group of approx 30 students. This course goes beyond the "distinctive" aspects of Messianic Theology and practice, but is a complete survey, in our view, of all basic theological divisions, including those of strong interest to the Messianic community. Mottel Baleston was born into a Jewish home in New York City, all 4 of his Grandparents were born in traditional Jewish homes in Europe. He attended both Jewish and public schools. He came to faith in Messiah Jesus after reading the Messianic prophecies in the Jewish Bible. He has been involved in the Messianic movement for over 40 years. He is Director of the "MESSENGERS OF THE NEW COVENANT", originally established in 1940 to aid Jewish WW2 refugees, now communicating the Good News of Messiah Yeshua to the Jewish community. We also disciple Jewish believers and educate Christians concerning the Jewish roots of their faith. He established a Messianic Jewish Fellowship in northern New Jersey in the 1980's, and then with 2 other believers, founded a Messianic Jewish Congregation in central New Jersey in the early 1990's. In 1997 he led the members of his fellowship into merger with Beth Messiah Congregation of Livingston NJ, where he then served as a Messianic Rabbi or Associate Rabbi from 1997 thru 2014, as well as a Hebrew class instructor. From 1998 onward summers found him teaching alongside Dr. Arnold Fruchtenbaum at the Ariel Messianic Summer Bible School at Camp Shoshanah. His articles appear in Ariel Magazine, and his teaching videos on several online venues. In recent years his outreach ministry continues in Jewish communities in the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania area.
