Camp Verde originally started out as Fort Verde, a vital US Cavalry outpost that was founded to protect the Verde Valley's early settlers against Indian attacks. A town grew up around the fort, to supply and support the troops stationed there, and parts of the original fort still exist at Fort Verde State Park, located right in the middle of town....
