The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.' 4. Let every valley be filled, and every mountain and hill be made low; let the crooked places be made straight, and the rough places be made plain. 5. Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken" (Isaiah 40:3-5). "10. Pass through, pass through the gates, prepare the way for the people! Make straight, make straight the road, remove the stones, raise a standard for the nations! 11. Behold, the Lord proclaims to the ends of the earth: Say to the daughter of Zion, Your Savior comes! His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him. 12. And they shall call them a holy nation, the redeemed of the Lord: but you shall be called a sought-after city, not forsaken” (Isaiah 62:10-12). “1. At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2. Jesus called a little child and set him among them. 3. And He said, “Truly I say to you, Except you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4. And Samuel said, Were not thou a little thing in thine own eyes, when thou becamest head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel? 18. And the LORD sent you on your journey, saying, "Go and utterly destroy the wicked Amalekites, and fight against them until you have destroyed them." 19. Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but rushed upon the spoil, and did evil in the sight of the LORD?" 20. Then Saul said to Samuel, "I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag king of the Amalekites, and have destroyed the Amalekites. 21. And the people have taken from the spoil, of the sheep and of the oxen, the best of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God at Gilgal." 22. Then Samuel answered, "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. 23. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness as idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king” (1 Samuel 15:13-23). “13. But I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14. Knowing that I must soon put off my body, as our Lord Jesus Christ also has shown me” (2 Peter 1:13-14). “3. For His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us to glory and virtue, 4. By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust— 5. Then, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6. to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7. to godliness brotherly kindness, to brotherly kindness love. 8. If these things be present in you and abound, you will by no means be barren and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9. But if anyone lacks these things, he is blind, has closed his eyes, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. 10. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent in making your calling and election sure. If you do these things, you will never stumble. 11. For thus an entrance will be abundantly opened for you into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 12.
