Mowata | What's in a Name? | Lost Louisiana (2007)

This segment from the “What’s in a Name, Part 3” episode of the series “Lost Louisiana” from December 7, 2006, features Charlie Whinham’s visit to Mowata in Acadia Parish. Whinham talks to Acadia Parish resident Greg Dupre about the community’s original name of “More Water” and the shortening of the name to “Mowata” because of a misspelled railroad depot sign. He also speaks to Mowata residents Bubba Frey, Paul Frey, and Loretta Kurta about the history of their community, including the blending of the cultures of the German founders and the Cajuns of Acadia Parish. Lastly, Whinham talks to former resident Eva Mae Leger-Chachere about moving her house from Mowata to nearby Eunice.
