It is known for its deft intermingling of the nearly constant running obligato line with the chorale melody. As such, the obbligato shares equal importance with the chorale itself. This setting allows for 2 solo instruments to share the obbligato line, while the piano plays the ensemble and choir parts. Attention should be given to the fact that, while the chorale is in 3/4 time, the piece is written in 9/8 time. As such, for an authentic performance, this difference should be observed and executed carefully.
